Community First
Kookaburra Kindy is a beloved community-based preschool with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1953, fostering strong connections with the local community of Blackheath. Managed by an association of parents and community members, our preschool thrives on the active involvement and partnership of families.
Parents' participation in the committee is crucial, as it empowers them to contribute to important decisions, organise fundraising events, and shape the future direction of the school, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive approach to education. Through this collective effort, we create a vibrant and supportive community where every child can flourish and reach their full potential.
Our Community
We proudly acknowledge the Darug and Gundungurra people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn and play. Through our active participation in local community events, we instill in our children a sense of belonging, respect, and understanding for the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Indigenous peoples, fostering empathy and appreciation for diverse perspectives.
One example of how we are actively involved in our local community is the intergenerational play group called Joy Program that we particiapted in run by Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre.
